WARNING: This Is A Dry Post

First of all I want to apologize for lacking on the updates as of late. I have been working like a madcap on this book and I thank all of you for your patience. I promise it will be worth it.

Secondly, I know a lot of you Lombardlovers love digging through the auction markets to get your hands on some Carole goodies and every so often I post a few legit ones on the side for you. On December 11, Ebay’s Live Auction in conjunction with Profiles in History is full of them! Fellow Lombardier Vincent “Pimpin” Paterno has compiled a crackload of them at Carole & Co so check them out!

Back to business. Regarding the forth coming book: I would love to get some feedback regarding the format and style of it. What would be your dream book? So far I have amassed a ridiculous amount of information- I passed 1,000 primary documents last month- and have been contemplating on the best way to present all the biographical information, new interviews, letters, her films, her radio, her photos etc.

One idea I had was to take the typical biographical format, load it up with photos all through out and section off each of her films in an orderly fashion. Example, you’d come to a chapter entitled:

“A PERFECT CRIME” 1921

You would get not just the photos, plot points, and reviews but also a lot of background information regarding how she was cast, her perspective on it, director’s perspective, cast member’s perspective, behind the scenes, production dailies, what happened after it, etc.

In between chapters would be dedicated to other subjects and activities central to her life and career and lots and lots of pictures.

Would this be confusing?

At the end of the book would be a complete filmography and radio chronology as I want to dedicate considerable space to her radio career. A lot of you have been e-mailing me about her first appearance and to be honest I don’t know-yet. The earliest I have is a April 8,1934 broadcast she did with John Barrymore; a half hour scene from Hamlet. If anyone of you knows more feel free to drop me a line.

I will try to get back on track with posting more articles and photos for you once my new Mac arrives! Until then, lots of lombard love xoxo

I think that sounds like a great format. Lots of pictures definitely would be a dream even those I’ve already seen. Someday I’ll be too old to make it to the computer and a book will be dandy!!

I agree with Katie. Your planned format sounds wonderful! Hearing about your extensive research makes me so anxious for your book to be finished and available. I love Lombard’s films and am infinitely interested in all the behind the scenes shenanigans, but I have to confess that I would also love learning more about the real, private Carole Lombard. Anything and everything about Lombard is of interest to me. I wish you every success and will be waiting patiently for your wonderful book!

Thanks for your feedback gals i really appreciate it.

I agree with you Debbie about emphasizing on the “real, private Carole”. This one is for the die-hards lol.

I really want to let Carole tell her own story whenever possible so lot’s of quotes! If I do utilize the film-format in between it will be purely for organizational purposes- “The Films of Carole Lombard” has already been done ; )

The “real” Carole will be the common denominator throughout.

    xoxo
