MY BEAUTY HINT By Carole Lombard

Carole Lombard

(Monitor Index and Democrat, October 7, 1932, pg.3)

Although I think make-up is very essential to beauty, my hint is not to overdo it.

In daytime, I use a powder of equal parts beige and flesh tints; a tea-rose shade of rouge and a very pale rose lipstick. I never use mascara or eye pencil when going to shop or out walking.

For evening, a powder four shades darker is my favorite. I use no cheek rouge, but my lipstick is heavier. I use a carmen red. At night I also use violet eyelid shadow and dark blue mascara, lengthening my eyebrows slightly with a blue pencil.

Blue pencil on eyebrows? Never would have imagined that. Too bad I don’t have a blue pencil- yet!

Another beauty related announcement: SKy+HD was commissioned by the Telegraph.co.uk to survey viewers on who they thought were the Top 20 Most Timeless Beauties. Audrey Hepburn was voted number one but Carole Lombard didn’t make the cut. Apparently Jennifer Aniston and Keira Knightley are more timeless.

Not cool.

  1. Haha, I was saying I think they accidentally typed a “2″ after the “1″ next to Vivien Leigh’s name because I think you’d have to be legally blind to say that Julia Roberts or Kiera Knightley or Sophia Loren is/was more beautiful than Vivien. CAROLE SHOULD SO BE ON THERE! WTF CAMERON DIAZ!

  2. Blue pencil, interesting! :-) Really interesting bit of information on her makeup.

  3. Kendra: I know. . .I know. No Rita Hayworth or Lana Turner. They should stop these lists. Maybe I should stop reading them too. lol

Lindsey: I’m glad you found Carole’s beauty tips interesting. I tried the blue pencil on the brows today and the dark blue looks pretty swell. (I have dark brows mind you) Definitely a night thing though.

  4. When it comes to these “all-time” lists, people tend to have absurdly short memories. Human nature, y’know. So while we may understandably (and rightly) inveigh against the selection of the overrated Jennifer Aniston over the likes of Lombard, just take it with the proverbial grain of salt.

And to Kendra — Cameron Diaz has been compared to Carole, and considers it a compliment (http://community.livejournal.com/carole_and_co/102453.html). So at least give her credit for recognizing the greatness of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
