Today we get to peek into the best part of Carole Lombard’s closet: her dresses!

Yes, the wonderful Miss-y Tally has returned with some more goodies from her vast and very lovely Lombard-ilia collection.

Tally, take it away . . .

1) First, is a lovely pink and silver, net cocktail dress, simply GORGEOUS, Very full skirt, and Carole must have looked incredible in it! No tears or flaws at all. Many COAs attached..Dated Late 1930s..

2) A Lovely black chiffon evening dress with sequins along the waist and sleeves, Very beautiful! (Again as with the other black dresses, these are the chief items I believe they expected to be photographed in for b/w film. Exquisitely stitched..)

3) Another black cocktail dress, dated 1935, with lace at the top, black ribbon still attached, and chiffon skirt. Slightly flared at the bottom, typical 30′s fashion! Beautiful condition!

4)This last was nearly lost by a collector who “had no time or wish” to repair it (A dated early 1930′s white /lace gown of Carole’s. ) consisting of a full length slip with lace overlay, V-shaped back. The straps of the slip are ripped and the lace at the bottom is torn in one spot, but after serious PRODDING and PESTERING I persuaded him to sell it to me. Came with legitimate paperwork and COAs.(Cant BELIEVE the idiocy of ANYONE content with losing a rarity like this dress! I am convinced there Is somone out there who has the skill for proper repair, but I will leave that to FT WAYNE. I cannot hang it so had to display laid out.Hopefully you can see by the closeups how delicate and lovely it is.

Also included is a closeup of the tear of the straps…

The sound you all hear is Carole cheering Tally and everyone else on. There it is again! GO TALLY! GO TALLY!

All of these dresses are super stunning! I think the pink and white ones are my favorite. What about you?

It is such a thrill to be able to see all of these dresses. They are all so very beautiful, and it is so much fun to imagine our Carole wearing them. I really love the pink cocktail dress, but my very favorite is the beautiful lace dress that Tally had to photograph laying flat. Oh my goodness, it is so gorgeous! Thank you so, so much Tally and Carla! You are both the best!

They are all so beautiful. You can’t buy dresses like that today. I think my favorite is the last one. I don’t think it would be too hard to fix the strap. Thank you Carla and Tally!

I was so thrilled and happy to find more of Tally’s collection posted for us all to see and get a glimpse into the fabulous clothes that helped make Carole the legend she is. Every item is something you can just picture Carole wearing, and somewhere there has to be photos out there of her in them. It’s so hard to choose a favorite, and this all goes to show just what exquisite taste Carole had! Thank goodness someone thought to preserve these one of a kind fashion, and also for Tally’s tenacity and determination in finding these lost treasures.

This has been a real treat. Thanks again Tally and Carla. I am looking forward to more. Not too greedy, am I? ;-)

    Hi there!
Wendy..I was reading what you said re the straps on the white dress? How Id LOVE to see them fixed; but again Id be scared to death to have them fixed on my own. Like the old SHirley Temple Composition dolls? Some of that composition materail, for the most part, cracks and shatters over time, and many of those dolls are “restored” and come out looking almost NEW, it turns out they arent worth as much as a ST in “Original condition”, cracks included! Been collecting those dolls too for years, and I dont want to let even the most skilled seamstress’ work stand in the way of that dress making it thru the Gate of the Museum some day. It woud be GREAT if somebody reading this now could someday go there and SEE it displayed looking all GLAMOUROUS and REPAIRED!(If one of you guys do, remember the “crazy lady” who sweated bullets over the torn slip straps!;o) )
AM sending more scans to Carla later today..STAY TUNED……….
    Love you guys!
    Tally
