This is the fifth in a as-long-as-it-takes-part series with Miss-y Tally and her wonderful collection of Lombard-ilia. Hopefully you are all enjoying this series as much as I am. If you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about CLICK HERE to see Part 1. Let’s get to it!

“Scans of some more handbags, Carole’s pink-alligator skinned compact and embroidered white gloves. The compact and gloves are in the black bag; it has a beautiful multi-stoned clasp. Again the brown one has a gold clasp and satin inside, coppery color.”

“Original mirror and coin purse. Some scratches along the mirror compartment, likely Carole made. I had an admirer, from many years ago pop in during the worst of the cancer treatment @6 years ago. He bought me that for $600, then he disappeared. I have ALWAYS appreciated that bag!lol Funny the way people pop in and out . . . I think Carole would have laughed. I’m just glad it’s here, definitely a bag to carry with furs and a beautiful gown.”

  1. Donna S. says:

She had such exquisite taste! That compact mirror and those gloves . . . oh I love them all!! Thank you again Tally for opening up the collection to us.

  2. Debbie says:

I am just overwhelmed by all of these beautiful things and so grateful to Tally for sharing here! I’ve made a little mental note to be on the lookout for a bit of pink “alligator” something or other to tuck into my own handbag, a tiny tribute to the wonderful Lombard!
Carla, thanks to you, too. I LOVE this site and appreciate all of your hard work!

  3. Pam says:

I’m with Donna and Debbie on this one! What exquisite taste Carole had!! I mean pink alligator, how cool is that?! I so love and appreciate seeing all these precious owned items of Carole’s and imagining if they could only talk…;-) Thank goodness someone knew to preserve them or they’d have been lost forever.

    Pam

  4. Vincent says:

Beautiful items from a beautiful lady (and that refers to both Carole and Tally)!

  5. Rose says:

In Rosalind Russell’s bio she mentioned she had a maid, I believe, who made and/or embroidered gloves and she had some made for Carole when she and Gable made They Met in Bombay. I wonder if this is one of the pairs? They certainly are exquisite!

  6. Tally says:

From LIFE IS A BANQUET? Wow Rose, I used to have that book years ago, wish I still did; the COOL thing is, as I was pulling out some other material from the LETTER/COA file box earlier anyway, I reread the COA then Letter of Authentication for them and they have it listed “Carole Lombard, Embroidered white gloves, circa 1940″… fascinating “possibility” there, I wonder if you have gotten closer than you know?? :) The year is a “direct hit”. wow..Thanks Honey (I MEAN it!)

  7. Rose says:

I don’t know how I managed to remember that from Life is a Banquet.
You are more than welcome. It’s fun trying to put the puzzle pieces together.

  8. Tally says:

Yes, “mysteries” abound here, and its like unlocking one of many “doors”..(Something REALLY worthwhile awaits inside.) THANKS! ;)
